About the Role:
Synapsify is looking for a talented Environment Artist with strong Unreal Engine experience to create high-quality, photorealistic environments. This is a production-focused role where you will assemble visually compelling scenes using a pre-existing asset library rather than creating assets from scratch.
The ideal candidate has a strong artistic eye for composition, lighting, materials, and storytelling while maintaining technical optimization and documentation standards.
Responsibilities:
• Create small- to medium-scale photorealistic environments using Unreal Engine.
• Assemble scenes using assets provided by the team (models, materials, vegetation, props, decals, etc.).
• Configure lighting, post-processing, atmospheric effects, fog, reflections, and environment settings to achieve high-quality visual fidelity.
• Set up materials, decals, foliage, and environmental details to enhance realism.
• Optimize scenes to maintain performance while preserving visual quality.
• Ensure consistency with project art direction and quality standards.
• Collaborate with technical artists and project managers to meet project milestones.
• Document the complete environment creation workflow, from receiving assets to delivering the final scene, including:
• Asset organization
• Scene setup
• Lighting workflow
• Material configuration
• Post-processing
• Optimization techniques
• Final rendering settings
• Maintain clear documentation so that another artist can reproduce the environment following the provided guide.
Requirements:
• Strong proficiency in Unreal Engine 5.
• Strong understanding of:
• Lighting (Lumen preferred)
• Post Processing
• Materials and Material Instances
• Foliage system
• Atmospheric effects
• Excellent sense of composition, scale, color, and environmental storytelling.
• Experience creating photorealistic environments.
• Ability to work with an existing asset library rather than modeling assets from scratch.
Additional Requirements:
• Experience with Nanite and Virtual Shadow Maps.
• Experience using Quixel Megascans, Fab, or similar asset libraries.
• Knowledge of optimization for real-time rendering.
• Experience with cinematic scene creation.
• Familiarity with Git, Perforce, or other version control systems.
